Avis Ellis, born in Los Angeles, began her career at age eight singing for the Southern Missionary Baptist Church in the Little Angels Choir. When she entered Junior High, she was discovered by the famous Young Saints’ Choir.
Avis attended El Camino College and studied vocal training, including opera. After college, she sang in various night clubs in the LA area, including three years with the house band “The East Coast Connection” at the Venetian Resort and Hotel in Las Vegas, and that’s when she was discovered by overseas booking agents.
Avis has performed all over the world including Monte Carlo, France, Helsinki, Finland; Nagoya, Japan; Geneva, Switzerland; and Taipei, Taiwan. She also sang the closing song to the motion picture “Made in America” and prior to her overseas stardom was a top teen finalist in the Star Search talent competition. She’s also worked with the hit composer Lebo M (the composer to the hit musical “The Lion King”). With Lebo, she was the featured artist on the music video “Kube” from the Lion King soundtrack, “The Rhythm of the Pride Land.”
She has also performed in the Broadway revue-musical “Beehive” during its six-month run at the Luxor Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.
Currently performing in Las Vegas with comedian George Wallace as his opening act, Avis is currently an integral member of the retro-pop band and music documentary TV show “The Forever Family” starring Shirley Jones of Partridge Family fame which is also seeking a major label record deal and network TV show. Avis is a riveting incredible entertainer with an energetic, electrifying voice and show that mesmerizes and captivates audiences of all musical tastes. Given her strong performance credits, her name and face recognition from the television show Star Search, her charisma to inspire audiences as she performs and her strong fan base, Avis is sure to continue enjoying a long career in entertainment as a a shining star.
